DatsUs are an Auckland based covers band playing all the songs you know and love.

John first started playing music in secondary school, his first performance being the 7th form end of year ball. Since those early years John has diver experience from performing in a “big band” and at the same time playing a mixture of covers and original music on Auckland’s live music pub scene. John released a double single back in the ’80s with Waterline, followed by the recording of an E.P. After a long break from performing John got back into the Auckland music scene and greatly enjoys entertaining the crowd. More recently John performed with Flare and then joined Ultrasound, a band that has played at high profile vineyard weddings on Waiheke. Now, with Datsus, John enjoys rock, funk, disco, swing – almost anything that has a guitar in it. But the most important thing is to get the dance floor full and to make sure everyone is having a good time.

Josh first started playing music at age 6 with his Mum who has been in hobby bands for several years. After exhausting her skills, she passed Josh onto her friends who actively played guitar in bands around the region. Josh received contemporary piano tuition at an early age and after some private guitar tuition in primary school, Josh was part of several bands in college and branched into playing harmonica and a bit of drums and toured the local schools giving concerts in a harmonica group.
Upon leaving his home town and moving to Auckland to study audio engineering at MAINZ, Josh joined bands in Auckland largely as a hobby before moving to Australia for 6 years, in which the first he created an acoustic duo in the gold coast that played at local restaurants. After moving back home in 2015, Josh joined an originals and 2 covers bands, one of which is DatsUs.
Music is in Josh’s blood stream. He enjoys sharing music live and in the studio and seeing people having fun enjoying it.
